Weekend Workshops

The new weekend workshops are hosted by Marie Wallin and are based on a specific project. The projects are exclusive designs by Marie and could be an item to wear or a decorative piece for the home. The workshops aim to be fun and friendly and are held in the creative surroundings of Farfield Mill, Sedbergh, Cumbria.

 

The price of each weekend workshop includes all the British Breeds yarn to finish the project, a delicious buffet lunch on each day along with plenty of tea and coffee and afternoon homemade cake!

 

During each of the two workshop days, there are opportunities to explore Fairfield Mill and see the work of the many craftspeople and artisans that reside there. There are also opportunities to see and try on the garments from Marie’s latest collections and buy new books, yarn and some kits (subject to availability).

 

The weekend workshops offer the chance to spend some time in the beautiful surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There are many wonderful places to stay, suiting all budgets - below are links to just a few very helpful accommodation suggestions:

Fingerless Mittens

The project is the WENSLEY FINGERLESS MITTENS from Marie’s new collection WESTMORLAND, due to be launched on the 1st February 2023. These lovely mittens are the perfect project for those new to Fairisle knitting as they can be knitted in the round or knitted flat.  Marie and her assistant, Gwynneth, will show you all the Fairisle techniques and tips to knit the mittens with confidence.

 

The price includes the printed pattern, charts and 11 balls of British Breeds yarn, presented in a lovely kit project bag. A delicious buffet lunch made from locally sourced produce, lots of tea and coffee, fruit juices, biscuits, and afternoon homemade cakes are also included as well. There will also be opportunities to look at the various exhibitions at the mill and to see some of the resident artisans at work. On display at the workshop will be the garments from Cumbria and Westmorland and opportunities to buy kits and books.

 

There is enough yarn in the kit to make two pairs of mittens!

 

You will need to bring the following:

 

For knitting in the round

1 x 2.75mm fixed circular – 20cm in length or 4 x 2.75mm short double pointed needles.

1 x 3.25mm fixed circular needle – 20cm in length or 4 x 3.25mm short double pointed needles.

Markers.

 

For knitting flat

1 pair of 2.75mm straight needles

1 pair of 3.25mm straight needles

Markers.

 

There will be a maximum of 16 people at the weekend workshop and it will start at 10am on each day and finish at 4pm. We will start promptly, so please arrive by 9.45am on each day.

 

 

Ennerdale Cowl

The project is the ENNERDALE COWL from Marie’s new collection WESTMORLAND, due to be launched on the 1st February 2023. This beautiful cowl is the perfect project for those new to Fairisle knitting as it is knitted in the round and the main colour is used throughout the design, making it easier to knit and quicker to complete. Marie and her assistant, Gwynneth, will show you all the Fairisle techniques and tips to knit the cowl with confidence.

 

The price includes the printed pattern, charts and 14 balls of British Breeds yarn, presented in a lovely kit project bag. A delicious buffet lunch made from locally sourced produce, lots of tea and coffee, fruit juices, biscuits, and afternoon homemade cakes are also included as well. There will also be opportunities to look at the various exhibitions at the mill and to see some of the resident artisans at work. On display at the workshop will be the garments from Cumbria and Westmorland and opportunities to buy kits and books.
